Spring Allergies

By Karen Morris

With the start of Spring, the weather really heated up for us in Sydney.

Reports of unusual temperatures reaching big highs, it’s really felt more like Summer already.

You may be asking, what happened to Spring?

However, we’ve also had a lot of windy days and with all the new spring flowers and foliage about, the wind is distributing pollen and dander and stirring up leaves around and around everywhere we go.

You may have noticed your eyes are drier and grittier when you’re out walking. Maybe your sinuses are acting up, causing blockages and stuffiness. And maybe your throat is irritated too. And how is your skin? Have you noticed dry, itchy, flaky skin?

You might think the wind doesn’t affect you when you’re walking down the street, but for some people, it causes a whole host of allergies and irritations that one can really do without.

Not only do they affect you during the day, but also at nighttime when trying to sleep.

And if you’re not getting enough sleep, we all know the studies that have shown that lack of sleep is very detrimental to your health.

So how exactly do these winds stir up the allergy response in your system?

High winds can cause severe allergic reactions by spreading pollens far and wide.

As mentioned before, allergy responses can be:

  • Dry, gritty, itchy eyes
  • Swollen, puffy, red eyes
  • Itchy throat
  • Sinus blockages or runny sinuses and drips
  • Itchy, blotchy skin, rashes
  • Asthma, shortness of breath
  • Hay fever

It’s best to try and reduce your exposure to wind and pollens by staying indoors as much as possible, closing your windows and using an air purifier if needed.

Here at Herbs Online Shop. we also have a range of organic, natural and safe remedies to help you through this allergy season.

Allergy Herbal Drops are a combination of herbs that are helpful in decreasing allergic reactions to airborne substances, foods and environmental toxins. The herbs are safe, natural and effective in helping to decrease inflammation and promote respiratory health and a healthy immune system.

Allergy herbal drops are for anyone suffering from allergies, and they are also an effective treatment for children with eczema and recurrent ear infections, which are often caused due to allergies. Our allergy herbal drops are natural and safe to use. Take 5ml once to four times daily depending on symptoms.

If you’d prefer to take a single herb, Baical Skullcap liquid herbal drops are your allergy assistant this Spring. Baical skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis Root) is used to treat respiratory infections, hay fever, dermatitis, eczema, urticaria and fever. Baical Skullcap is antiallergic and anti-inflammatory.

Baical skullcap’s active compound wogonin reduced the allergic response to mites in human skin cells. Baikal Skulcap reduced the allergic reaction by decreasing levels of histamine and other inflammatory compounds. Skullcap reduced the inflammatory response to allergenic proteins by decreasing IgE antibodies and cytokine levels. The herb also prevented allergy-triggering proteins from being absorbed in the gut.

To treat asthma, Baicalin from baical skullcap showed anti-asthmatic activity (antihistaminic and anticholinergic activity) in isolated tracheal muscle. Reducing hypersensitivity and inflammation in the airways is vital to managing asthma. Its traditional use supports the relief of nighttime asthma symptoms. Take 2ml once to three times daily.

Quercetin is a natural anti-inflammatory that reduces the risk of free radical-induced inflammation and damage via several mechanisms. Allergy management: Quercetin may assist in the management of allergies through inhibition of leukotriene synthesis and histamine release. Antioxidant support: Protection during times of excessive free radical exposure such as inflammation. Take 1 tablet one to two times daily depending on the severity of symptoms.

Probiotics such as Lactobacillus rhamnosus & Lactobacillus paracasei are also super important to keep your immune system regulated and reduce the occurrence of allergy symptoms. Taking a daily probiotic such as this also helps the management of eczema and psoriasis, and can help to reduce the symptoms of eczema such as itching.
