Food is made to nourish us. This week, a key theme amongst my clients is food and emotional responses to food. If you are currently focused on weight loss, then food might be on your mind a little more than usual, that’s normal, but be mindful not to let it become an obsession. The body will naturally lose excess weight if stress hormones are balanced, and when food becomes an obsession it only raises cortisol and makes it harder to lose weight. At Herbs Online Shop we have guided so many of our clients through journeys of weight loss and repairing relationships with food. We have many tools and techniques like food journals, supplementation with certain herbs, hypnotherapy, weight loss herbal extracts and detox support, mindfulness exercises, meditation and overall guidance on building a strong, healthy relationship with food and how we use it to fuel our bodies.
I’d love to share a recipe I’ve been creating using our Vanilla and Cocoa Plant Based Amino Acid Protein Powder. This devine little snack is high in protein, vitamins and minerals and complex carbohydrates for sustained energy. The ultimate go-to for busy kids, mums, dads and everyone in-between! I have used our Vanilla flavoured plant based amino acid protein in this batch, but I’ve also made them with the cocoa flavour which is delicious too.
Makes 12
Ingredients:
Rolled oats – 1 cup
Herbs Online Shop Amino Acid Protein Powder – Vanilla – 2 scoops
Almond Butter or Peanut Butter – 2 tablespoons
Flax seeds – 1 teaspoon
Chia seeds – 1 teaspoon
Chocolate chips or sultanas – 2 tablespoons
Almond milk 100ml
Method:
Combine all the dry ingredients into a bowl and add the almond butter or peanut butter. Stir gently, then add the milk little by little. At this stage, it’s easier (and a lot more fun!) to roll the batch into little balls using your hands. Once you have rolled 12 balls, place on a tray and pop in the fridge for 30 minutes. It’s that easy!
If you feel like you need some additional support with your food journey, here are ten tips on how to heal a relationship with food:
- Food Log: Write down your food intake and express gratitude for each meal by writing ‘thank you’ after each entry.
- Journal: At the end of each day, write some thoughts down about your food choices and your health-focused goals for the following day. Reflection is key.
- Drink up: Hydrate. It’s the answer to many issues.
- Education: Learn about nutrition, when we have a greater understanding on how food works, what macronutrients are and how they work in our body, food becomes less scary and easier to understand.
- Don’t limit yourself – you can still achieve any health goal and have some fun at the same time, enjoy different foods and drinks, but remember why you started your journey. Indulge without splurging, you can have the best of both worlds.
