Over the Easter break I had a few patients announce their pregnancy, something that is always wonderful to hear! I thought I would use this week’s blog to discuss one of my must-have liquid herbal extracts when you are expecting – Breast Feeding Herb Extract Drops
Breast Feeding Liquid Herbal Extract is designed to increase volume and quality of breast milk. In the extract that we use at www.herbsonlineshop.comI include fennel, goats rue and fenugreek, which traditionally are used to increase the production of milk in lactating mothers. This wonderful herb works by increasing prolactin levels which is a hormone necessary for breast milk production. When combined with fenugreek, it is a healthy, natural way to improve consistency and volume of breast milk. When it comes to goat’s rue, the high levels of vitamins A, B1, B2, C and E also work to nourish the expecting mother and baby, while calcium, iron and folic acid in the goat’s rue assist in the development of a healthy, thriving bub.
In addition to the Breast Feeding Liquid Herbal ExtractsI also recommend incorporating the following foods to expectant mothers trying to increase their breast milk supply.
- Spinach – spinach is a wonderful source of iron, which is an essential micronutrient for efficient breast milk production.
- Apricots – apricots are a great source of calcium. The recommendation for nursing mothers is 1,000 milligrams per day and the same amount Is recommended for pregnant women. Calcium deficiency can be caused during pregnancy as the baby draws calcium from the mother’s bones, meeting your daily calcium requirements will help to improve consistency of lactation.
- Nuts and Seeds – Enjoy a wide variety of nuts and seeds when lactating for protein, healthy fats and fibre and enjoy seeds like sesame seeds for iron, magnesium, phosphorus, copper and manganese.
