I hope you have had an amazing Christmas and you are looking forward to some down-time over the next week or so. I’d like to use this week’s blog to share some quick tips for detoxing, as I know after Christmas festivities a detox is usually in order for many of us!
Hydration: Detoxing can be done over a variety of ways, the first and most important is through proper hydration. Staying hydrated by drinking at least the recommended 8 glasses of water a day will assist your body in the removal of toxins. For every hour of exercise you do, add an additional 1 litre of water to your daily intake. Adding lemon to your water can also help the body detox and improve the quality of skin. You might notice during a detox that your skin may break out, this is simply toxins from within the body being removed and is a normal part of the process, detoxing can also cause headaches so be mindful of this too!
Cut out the sugar: After improving hydration the next step is to focus on sugar consumption. Removing or reducing sugar is critical if you are wanting to give your health an overhaul and really enjoy the benefits of a good detox. The key to removing sugar from your diet completely is to start to listen to your body, when we are in tune with our body we can really understand what it is we actually need. Soon you will discover you rarely if ever reach for conventional sugar. It will become natural to reach for the foods nature has provided for us when we need a boost in our nutrition. If this is something you would like to cultivate for the new year, now is the perfect time to start.
Bump up the vegetable intake: The third tip I would give would be to bump up the amount of vegetables in your diet. Vegetables play a very important role in health and support the body during detoxification. Vegetables contain essential vitamins and minerals and phytochemicals that support the body in a variety of ways. Green vegetables like broccoli, parsley, kale, spinach, rocket and mint have very high levels of antioxidants and are rich in phenols and chlorophyll, which support the body to detox and cleanse.
That’s all for this week, have a wonderful week – we will be back processing orders from the 4th of January and look forward to connecting with you then.
